About Michelle Lombardo
licensed Clinical Social Worker
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Therapist, I serve the New Castle-Lawrence/Mercer County, PA region. My counseling approach includes helping people build their sense of self and confidence, by first assisting them in developing an internal sense of hope, empowering them to have their own voice and life direction. Therefore, I am always seeking to help them grow into who they truly are. I feel that it is important to instill a core belief that growth and healing are possible for everyone, regardless of past circumstances and losses. Consequently, it is my belief that everyone can find healing when given the right support, skills, and time.
Availability: I see clients on Monday- Thursday 9:00 AM-7:00 PM.
Why Work With Me?
The typical counseling process includes developing a person’s ability to identify not only what is negative and missing from their world, but also what is positive and strong in it and themselves. In sessions, there is a focus on self awareness, skill development and the application of needed skills. Then I work to apply these resources in their everyday lives. I like to help people develop a sense of what they want to work on and what they need to get there.
Furthermore, I feel that it is important for my clients to take away from the therapy process a sense of self-acceptance, as well as a feeling of being more capable of navigating life’s stressors or challenges in healthy ways.
My Treatment strategies
With nearly a decade of experience in mental health counseling, I have learned and cultivated a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques. This includes the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness based practices, Trauma Focused CBT, and a certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), among others. All of these are well-tested and evidence-based treatments, approaches that have shown proven results in not only treating present symptoms, but also in addressing core issues. Consequently, these tactics can prevent those issues from continually resurfacing after treatment ends.
I tend to mix these approaches based on where a person is coming from, their current needs from treatment, and what they are comfortable with. Typically, I begin with mindfulness techniques to help clients feel more grounded and prepared prior to starting trauma work. Above all, I focus on ensuring and developing emotional safety and stability, as well growing and incorporating a client’s strengths into the treatment process. This increases their progress toward successful completion of treatment needs and a fuller and more enjoyed life.
