How is counseling different for Young Adults?
You spent your whole life planning all the things you would do once you became ‘an adult’
You focused on those magic numbers & the changes it would mean for your life; 18, 21, 25
Feeling that, “Once I am an adult I can make my own decisions, do what I want, go where I want, be with who I want…”
But you never imagined it would be this hard to be an emerging adult!
So many firsts to learn and master;
First apartment, first job, first real bills, first adult relationship.
Often followed by the first job loss, first overdue bills or shut off notice, and first adult heartbreak.
At Angelus we see you, we hear you, & we are here to help you find your way through THIS
What is an Emerging Adult?
Though some people in their 40s may still not feel as though they are fully adults yet, the terms young adult or “emerging adult” usually refers to those around and between the ages of 18-25.
This is the typical ‘just out of high school, into and fresh out of college, getting through first jobs, first apartments and first real relationships age’. The stage where you may likely be eating ramen every night for dinner and scrounging for gas money to get through the week. But the same one where you are just as likely to jump on plane or take a last minute road trip across the country purely for the hell of it, as you are to stay in and binge and entire season on Netflix.
Life is both incredibly hard and amazingly exciting at this age. You don’t feel like you quite fit in either the kid or adult roles consistently and may feel like other people keep pushing you back and forth between the the two. Insisting that you are still a child and don’t know anything about life yet but want you to act with the responsibility and judgement of a seasoned adult.
